Sew For Victory Dress!

Hello all!

Welcome to my new sewing blog, that I just set up, just now, just for this challenge, so I didn't hog the Sew For Victory Flickr group feed with photos of me, because there are a lot, it's ridiculous, I know. PHEW. Long sentence. I am really bad at blogs, and have NEVER been able to maintain one. But I thought maybe I should set one up for my sewing creations, so here we go!

The dress I made was from the Butterick Retro pattern 5281. I call it my Lauren Bacall dress, because well it reminds me of Lauren Bacall. I DEFINITELY did some making do and mending on this dress. For one, when I started sewing it I realized I didn't have the right colour of thread, sooooo I just sort of used some I had laying around. Also, the fabric store had, like, 4 different shades of blue zippers, and NONE of them matched my dress, so I went with the one that at least sort of matched in a contrasty way. Sigh. Oh well, I am very happy with the results! There are supposed to be shoulder pads in the dress, but I didn't have any, so maybe I will add them later. In any case it looks good without them I think. My friend, so kindly took some photos for me. He took A LOT of photos (like 2000) so I narrowed it down to 26. I realize that's a lot, but I liked so many of them!! It was a beautiful day here in Montreal today, so we got some shots outside, and I really, really like them. Well, here they are!
My sad attempt at a victory roll hairstyle.
Shop vac being blown in my face, for added ANTM experience.

I love these ones! The lighting outside was so beautiful!
Good shot of the decorative buttons on the yoke.
Close up of the hook and eye closures on the sleeves.

I know the Pan Am bag isn't very period accurate, but we threw it in just for fun, and I like the way the dress looks in this shot.
My friend who snapped the photos is also setting up a scooter rental service here in Montreal. So in exchange for him shooting my dress, I modeled a little for some photos for his website. Here's a couple fun ones. Love the joggers in the back. So funny.
Hope you enjoyed the photos and like my dress!! I really had a great time doing this sew-a-long and it's so great that people like Rochelle exist and do fun things like this! Thanks Rochelle and all the other lovely ladies involved in this challenge. Your garments are all gorgeous!

Until next time! Hopefully I'll be able to keep up with this thing.
